WILD SOULS
About Wild Souls

Natural Souls, as characters know them, are directly provided by Patho-Gen using their Augmenter technology. They fall under ten distinct categories.

Wild Souls are obtained differently compared to Natural Souls. They are not under the sway of Patho-Gen at all, and instead imbue themselves in characters as though an offering from the world itself. They remain shrouded in mystery. Just like with Natural Souls, characters don't choose what kind of soul they get, or if they get one at all. (That's for players to choose for them!)

Functionally speaking, Wild Souls have all of the same attributes that Natural Souls have: they offer protection from arcane radiation, characters can Shift into a more monstrous form, and merely having the soul will cause their bodies to be slowly Corrupted, their everyday bodies made to display traits of the soul that resides with their body.

Wild Souls are not available as choices for characters upon first application, and are instead redeemed as a 800-point "treat" via Recollection & Retribution. While this can change over time, the current reason for this is that Patho-Gen has no control over these particular souls.

Characters who inquire about the origin of their Wild Souls to Patho-Gen will be met with curiosity, and a frank truth: they had not discovered these souls as available options to imbue characters with. And even still, their choices seem to be primarily limited to the original ten. But they would love to understand these special souls, indeed.

Implementing Wild Souls

Upon redeeming the 800 point "treat," you may choose any soul from this list that you prefer. You are free to do one of two things:

  1. Add the Wild Soul as a secondary soul. They are designed to work as as souls that can provide additional traits and powers. Regarding conflicting traits: you can have your character be a mess of warring needs at all times; you can have them sometimes exhibit one trait or another; you can pick and choose, as you prefer.
  2. Replace the Natural Soul your character has. If you apped your character as one type but really wanted them to be a Fungi-type, you are free to replace the Natural Soul they originally received. Patho-Gen will be very confused, but at least these Wild Souls still provide protection from arcane radiation... You may need to take some extra liberties in your design as you see fit.

SOUL TYPES
fungi-type
A unique soul that shares a lot in common with Terra-type, they couldn't be more different. Fungi-type souls have far-reaching, subconscious detection through the earth itself; they feast off of dissolving other structures and creatures. Capable of a wide variety of 'effects,' from poisons to mind alteration, they are also capable of controlling the minds of their victims.

perissodactyla-type
Odd-toed ungulates, which include rhinos, horses, and tapirs. While sturdy and strong with thick hides, they are delicate, sensitive to fluctuations of temperature and with sensitive guts. These soul types are renowned for gaining special powers in the dark of the night, from dream manipulation, potent healing powers, pact-making, shapeshifting, and beyond.

marsupialia-type
Kangaroos, opossums, koalas, and more, Marsupialia-types differ strongly from each other. With all kinds of dietary needs, potentials for different waking habits, and vastly different physical structures, they're a doozy. Marsupialia-types are capable of psychological manipulation and hypnosis, capable of creating mirages and altering short-term memory of others.

cnidaria-type
Cnidaria-types include inspiration from jellyfish, sea anenome, ocean parasites, corals, and more. This also means that, like Marsupialia-types, their traits can vary—widely. Some may grow translucent, thin skin; others may grow rocky, coral-like protrusions along their bodies. But the production of venom is common. Machiavellian and callous, they wield powers around the venom they produce, and may have the ability to interface with the souls of others.
