Hiatus

Hiatuses of 2+ weeks in a given calendar month clears you of AC for that month, but you will still need to check in. Checking in means posting to your AC comment thread that you are on hiatus. If you aren't able to, please let us know at some point before the close of AC.
However, we strongly recommend that you check in at the same time that you submit your hiatus.
As AC requirements are modest, taking a shorter hiatus does not clear you from it, so it's purely for letting people know you won't be around.
If you need to be on hiatus for several months running, please also contact the mods so we can work something out with you.
As for what your character is up to during this time, they can either be on autopilot, or committed (voluntarily or otherwise) to Patho-Gen facilities for Augmenter maintenance. Perhaps they were feeling a bit under the weather... or having issues with the corruption wrought by their soul type. Whatever the problem, Patho-Gen is here to help.

Drops

As noted on the FAQ:

For unknown reasons, a character's soul can become... detached from its host prematurely (suspected to be due to a faulty Soul Augmenter, but the engineers behind their design deny this). Their body remains in the setting, completely taken over by their Natural Soul—just as occurs during death. Units will be dispatched to pacify and collect the wayward body, where it will be kept within Patho-Gen facilities for safekeeping. It is possible for other characters to see this happen!

In any case, we are sorry to see you go, and Patho-Gen will keep good(?) care of your character's body, should you ever decide to return.

CANON UPDATES

Characters will feel an increasing pain in their neck (or relevant location), a throbbing where their Augmenter had first been inserted.

If they seek assistance from Patho-Gen doctors, they'll be kept for observation, in a room not dissimilar to the one they first arrived in... if with significantly tightened security around its exit. Their manner will be concerned, if not alarmed; blood will be drawn (if applicable), scans will be run to try and determine if there's some malfunction with the Augmenter. Whatever the problem, you're in the right place to see it handled—the staff assures you of this, smiles practiced and fixed.

At some point in the coming hours, upwards of a day (depending on how soon a character decided to seek aid), they will fall into a profound, unbreakable slumber. Before exhaustion takes them, a searing heat will be felt from their Augmenter's location, and the last thing they hear will be a blaring alarm....

When they next awaken (which can be several hours to several days later), they will feel nearly as sore as they did when first arriving in Karteria. An attending nurse will praise you for your foresight in coming to them in time. They'll describe what happened as your Augmenter requiring a 'small adjustment', as it had become marginally out of sync with your character's soul(s). They'll also encourage them to return should they ever feel anything like this again, and also hope that they'll tell others of what to do, should they see anyone else suffering similarly.

If a character does not seek help within a day of rising pain, a similar outcome will occur. They will collapse into unconsciousness, and be unresponsive to any and all attempts to rouse them. (It is up to you if your character is dragged off to weather it on a bench, or scooped up by a roaming ServiTon and returned to Patho-Gen.) When they finally surface on their own, they will be weakened, disoriented, and fragile. Fortunately, there was nothing that actually required medical intervention... this time.

And in both cases, they will have a whole host of new memories to sort through....
